Shepherds Heart - March 13, 2021 Wandering EyesThere are so many of God’s children who forfeit God’s promised peace simply because they take their eyes off the object of their faith (Jesus) and set them on either self, the circumstances of life or people. The apostle Peter is a great example of how wandering eyes can affect our walk with the Lord. Through the scriptures, we see that Peter had this wandering eye problem from the beginning of his relationship with the Lord. It was right after Peter realized that Jesus was the Messiah, that he took his eyes off the Lord and set them on his own sinfulness. Self condemnation caused him to try and send Jesus away from him.
Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"
Once again while Peter was miraculously walking upon a stormy sea, Peter took his eyes off Jesus and set his eyes on the windblown waves. This caused Peter to become overwhelmed with fear and unbelief, as he began sinking into the circumstances that were before him.
Matthew 14:30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"
Furthermore, it was immediately after Jesus had restored Peter and told him to “follow me” that he took his eyes off the Lord again and set them on John, hindering him from following after the Lord. John 21:21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?" 22 Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me."
In each situation Jesus ministered to Peter, causing him to realize that his eyes needed to be fixed on Him. It didn’t matter who Peter was when the Lord found him, Jesus came to save him from his sin and use him mightily for His kingdom. No matter what his circumstance, Peter discovered that if he kept his eyes on the Lord and trusted in Him, Jesus was more than able to save him in and through any circumstance. Finally, Peter also realized that if he kept his eyes on the lord and followed after him, Jesus would take care of everyone who concerned him.
No matter what you have done, or are going through, or who you have to deal with today, God wants you to trust Him that He has everything in your life under His control. Set and keep your eyes of faith on Jesus and He will cause you to experience His perfect peace, while He works all things out for your good.
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Keeping my eyes on Him,
Pastor Hector
